JIM TOBIN

Founder and CEO

Jim started River in 1989 with a single purpose — to provide creative public relations and marketing communications solutions to financial and professional services companies. The firm is built on a foundation of unwavering commitment to each client and a service orientation that has helped River maintain clients and relationships, in many cases for over a decade.

Jim thrives at collaborating with clients to see deeper and create real insight, identifying innovative, substantive business ideas that can differentiate clients from the competition and add meaningful value.

Prior to founding River, Jim was a partner at the financial public relations firm Rubenstein, Wolfson & Co., which he and his partners sold to the world’s largest public relations firm, Shandwick International.

A writer at heart who dabbles in short story fiction, Jim began his career as a journalist — first for Yachting and Skiing magazines, and then for Management Review Magazine, published by the American Management Association.

A proud graduate of Iona College, Jim has for many years taught in the Graduate Communications program at his alma matter as an adjunct professor.

SECRET PASSION: After spending a good day successfully brainstorming with Boston-based clients, Jim has been known to quietly slip away to Fenway Park to loudly cheer on his beloved Red Sox.
